Snake-Eye Full LED Headlights — BMW X3 E83
Halogen & Xenon to LED Conversion — Arrow DRL in Switchable White / Yellow — Twin-Projector Face — Pre-LCI & LCI — No Coding — 2004–2010
BMW X3 E83 • 2.0i • 2.5i • 2.5si • 3.0i • 3.0si • 2.0d • 3.0d • 3.0sd • xDrive20d • xDrive25i • xDrive30i • xDrive30d • xDrive35d • Pre-LCI & LCI • EU & US • 2004–2010
The first X3 is a tough, honest car wearing headlights from another era — halogen reflectors or early xenons behind lenses that have had two decades of sun. These replace the whole unit with a full-LED headlight built around the arrow-shaped "Snake-Eye" daytime running light, the sharp signature of BMW's current generation, in a twin-projector face that reads like a modern BMW from across a car park.
A complete conversion with everything inside the housing: a bi-LED projector for low and high beam, LED indicators, and an arrow DRL you can run in white or CSL yellow — switched by a plug at the back of the headlight, no stalk sequence to learn. Two harness versions cover every E83: halogen, and xenon including adaptive xenon (AHL). One version fits European and US-market cars, and the housing follows the factory outline, so it bolts onto pre-LCI (2004–2006) and LCI (2007–2010) cars alike with no bumper change and no coding.
Fits the BMW X3 E83, every engine from the 2.0d to the 3.0sd and the later xDrive badges, 2004–2010, with factory halogen, bi-xenon or adaptive xenon headlights.

Two Starting Points, One Headlight
Whatever your X3 left the factory with, the result is a current-generation LED front end.
Halogen → Full LED
Halogen to LED headlight upgrade
The majority of E83s: reflector bowls and H7 bulbs, replaced by a bi-LED projector with a proper cutoff and the arrow DRL. The halogen version plugs into your existing harness — no relays, no resistors, no coding.
Xenon → Full LED
Xenon to LED conversion
Standard or adaptive AHL xenon, one version covers both. Retire the D2S burners and ballasts before the next one fails; the xenon version handles the adaptive-light handshake, so AHL cars plug in with no warning and no coding.
Step 1 — Select Your Factory Headlights
We build a dedicated version for each E83 harness. Match the headlights currently on your car — one version fits EU and US cars, pre-LCI and LCI.
How to tell what you haveHalogen headlights show a reflector bowl and a visible bulb behind the lens. Xenon headlights have a clear round projector lens with glowing corona rings around it — two rings on pre-LCI cars, four on LCI — and, on European cars, washer jets in the bumper. Whether the xenon beams swivel with the steering (adaptive, option 524) or not (option 522) makes no difference here: both take the xenon version. Our headlight identification guide covers the option codes, or send us your VIN.

DRL Color — White or Yellow, Set by a Plug
No stalk sequence, no app, no remote. The DRL color is set by a small plug at the back of each headlight, reachable with the headlight in place — choose at install, change it any time.
- Plug connected: CSL Yellow DRL (~3,000K)
- Plug disconnected: White DRL (~6,000K)
Set both sides the same. The choice holds until you change it — nothing to re-select after an ignition cycle.
About the twin-projector faceEach headlight carries two projector lenses. One is the bi-LED light source for low and high beam; the second completes the twin-lens look the design is built around and is not a light source. We'd rather say so here than have you discover it at install — the output and beam pattern come from the active projector, and they are a clear step up from the halogen or xenon unit it replaces.
Engineered to Stay on the Car
Halogen, Xenon & AHL — Zero Coding
Two versions, each with the connector and electronics configured for its harness — including the adaptive-light handshake on AHL cars, so there's no warning on the dash and nothing to code. No cable, no laptop session, no dealer visit. Plug in and drive, on a 2004 car or a 2010 one.
The Snake-Eye Arrow DRL
Arrow-shaped LED light guides pointing inward toward the kidneys — the daytime signature of BMW's current range, drawn into the E83's outline. Run it in crisp white or CSL yellow; the choice is yours at the plug.
Ships Complete — Nothing to Transfer
Every LED driver and control board is inside the housing. No H7 bulbs, no D2S burners, no ballasts or igniters to move across. Your factory headlights come off intact — keep them, or sell them on.
Pre-LCI and LCI — Same Housing
BMW's 2006 facelift changed the bumper, the grille and the headlight internals, but kept the headlight's outer contour and connection points. One housing mounts on the factory points of a 2004 2.5i and a 2010 xDrive30d alike — no bumper work on either.
Bi-LED Projector — Instant-On
A bi-LED projector handles low and high beam with a sharp cutoff and even spread — full output the moment you turn the key, no warm-up, no bulbs to replace. The factory adaptive swivel of AHL units is replaced by this fixed, wide pattern.
Sealed Construction
ABS housings with PMMA lenses, sealed against moisture at every joint — a clear lens in place of the hazed and yellowed polycarbonate most E83s wear by now. Every pair is bench-tested across all functions before it ships.
2-Year Warranty
Two years of coverage from delivery date on every set.
Installation
A headlight swap requiring front bumper removal. No wiring modifications, no coding on either version. Allow 2–3 hours; a shop will quote around two hours.
- Remove the front bumper: the fasteners along the top edge under the hood, the screws inside the wheel arches, and the undertray clips. Disconnect the fog light connectors (and the washer-jet lines on xenon cars) before pulling the bumper forward.
- Unbolt the factory headlights and disconnect the harness plugs.
- Set the DRL color on each new headlight — plug connected for Yellow, disconnected for White — and keep both sides the same.
- Plug the new headlight into your factory harness — the connector matches the version you selected.
- Test before reassembly — low beam, high beam, DRL in your chosen color, indicators, and a clean dash with no lighting warnings.
- Reinstall the bumper and align beam height using the integrated adjusters — our headlight aiming guide covers the procedure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — that's exactly what the halogen version is. It plugs into your factory halogen harness and replaces the reflector units with a bi-LED projector and the arrow DRL. No bulbs, no ballasts, no relays, no coding.
The xenon version, in both cases. It covers bi-xenon (522) and adaptive xenon (524) and handles the adaptive-light handshake on AHL cars, so there's no dashboard warning and nothing to code. The physical beam swivel is replaced by a fixed, wide beam pattern.
Yes. BMW's 2006 facelift kept the headlight's outer contour and mounting points and changed only the internals, so one housing fits both. No bumper change either way.
Yes. There's no market selection on this set — choose halogen or xenon to match your car and it fits European and North American E83s alike.
With a small plug at the back of each headlight, reachable with the headlight installed: connected gives CSL Yellow, disconnected gives White. Set both sides the same. There's no stalk sequence to learn and nothing to re-select after an ignition cycle — the setting holds until you change it.
No — and we'd rather you know before you order. One projector is the bi-LED source for low and high beam; the second completes the twin-lens face and isn't a light source. Output and beam pattern come from the active projector, and they're a clear step up from the halogen or xenon unit they replace.
On a car this age the lenses have usually hazed and the ballasts and D2S burners are on borrowed time — each an expensive repair on its own. These replace all of it with instant-on LED optics and a clear lens, and trade the corona rings for the arrow DRL. One job instead of three.
No. The F25 (2010 onward) is the next generation with entirely different headlights. This set is for the E83 only.
Nothing. Projector, LED drivers and DRL electronics are all inside the new housing. Your factory headlights stay fully intact.
Yes, if you're comfortable removing the E83's front bumper. Standard hand tools, 2–3 hours, no lift required. Beam aiming afterwards takes a few minutes with the integrated adjusters.
