Snake-Eye Full LED Headlights — BMW X5 E70 & X5 M
Halogen & Xenon to LED Conversion — Twin Bi-LED Projectors — Dedicated Halogen, Xenon & Adaptive-Xenon Versions — No Coding — 2007–2013
BMW X5 E70 • X5 M • 3.0si • 3.0d • 3.0sd • 4.8i • xDrive30i • xDrive35i • xDrive48i • xDrive50i • xDrive30d • xDrive35d • xDrive40d • Pre-LCI & LCI • 2007–2013
The E70 is the X5 that aged well everywhere except the headlights. Twin halogen corona rings, hazed polycarbonate, xenon ballasts on their second decade — the front end gives the car's age away long before the rest of it does. These headlights replace the whole unit: a blacked-out housing with twin bi-LED projectors and the sharp arrow-shaped "Snake-Eye" LED daytime running light, the signature of BMW's current generation, drawn into the E70's outline.
A complete full-LED conversion. Low and high beam come from bi-LED projectors, the Snake-Eye DRL from LED light guides, and every driver sits inside the housing — nothing is reused from the old lights, no bulbs, no ballasts. Three dedicated versions cover every E70 harness: halogen, xenon, and adaptive xenon (AFS). The housing follows the factory outline, so it bolts onto pre-LCI (2007–2010) and LCI (2010–2013) cars alike, with no bumper change and no coding on any version.
Fits the BMW X5 E70, all engines from the 3.0si and 3.0d to the xDrive50i and xDrive40d, and the X5 M (E70), 2007–2013. Select the headlight type your car has today and the drive side; the correct connector and electronics are built in.

Three Starting Points, One Headlight
Whatever your X5 left the factory with, the result is the same full-LED front end.
Halogen → LED
Halogen to LED headlight upgrade
The biggest leap available on an E70: reflector bowls and H7 bulbs replaced by twin bi-LED projectors with a proper cutoff line. The halogen version plugs into your existing harness — no relays, no resistors, no coding.
Xenon → LED
Xenon to LED conversion
Retire the D1S burners and ballasts before the next one fails, and the hazed lenses with them. Instant-on bi-LED output, the Snake-Eye DRL in place of the corona rings, and the xenon version's connector drops straight onto the factory plug.
Adaptive Xenon → LED
AFS cars — a dedicated version
Every US-market E70 and every X5 M left the factory with adaptive xenon. The AFS version is built for that harness: plug in, no adaptive-headlight warning, no coding — where most LED conversions leave AFS owners to code the error out themselves.
Step 1 — Select Your Factory Headlights
We build a dedicated version for each E70 harness. Match the headlights currently on your car — the xenon and adaptive-xenon versions are not interchangeable, so this is the one selection to get right.
Halogen
2007–2013
Reflector housing, replaceable H7 bulbs behind the lens. Mostly European-market cars.
Halogen or xenon?Halogen headlights show a reflector bowl and a visible bulb behind the lens. Xenon headlights have clear round projector lenses, and on European cars the bumper carries headlight washer jets — halogen cars don't get them.
Xenon or adaptive xenon? From the outside they're the same headlight. The tell is behavior: start the car at night, turn the wheel, and adaptive beams swing with it — standard xenon beams don't move. The definitive answer is option code 524 on your vehicle order. Two shortcuts: every US-market E70 was built with adaptive xenon, and so was every X5 M — both take the AFS version. Our headlight identification guide walks through the codes, or send us your VIN.

Step 2 — LHD or RHD?
Low-beam patterns are built for the drive side. Select by where the steering wheel is — not where the car is registered.
LHD (Left-Hand Drive)
Continental Europe, US, most of the world. Beam dips to the right.
RHD (Right-Hand Drive)
UK, Ireland, Australia, Japan. Beam dips to the left.
Imported a LHD car to a RHD country? Select LHD — the beam pattern follows the car's original build.
Engineered to Stay on the Car
Halogen, Xenon & AFS — Zero Coding
Three dedicated versions, each with the connector and electronics configured for its harness. Halogen and xenon cars plug in and drive. Adaptive-xenon cars get their own version that satisfies the car's adaptive-light module — no warning on the dash, no coding session, no cable. Most E70 LED conversions are built for xenon cars only and leave AFS owners to code the fault out; here the AFS car is a selection, not a project.
Ships Complete — Nothing to Transfer
Every LED driver and control board is inside the housing. No H7 bulbs, no D1S burners, no ballasts or igniters to move across. Your factory headlights come off intact — keep them, or sell them on.
Pre-LCI and LCI — Same Housing
BMW's 2010 facelift changed the bumper and swapped the halogen corona rings for LED ones, but the headlight outline stayed. One housing mounts on the factory points of a 2007 3.0si and a 2013 xDrive40d alike — no bumper work on either.
Twin Bi-LED Projectors
Two projectors per side handle low and high beam with a sharp cutoff and wide, even coverage — instant-on, full output the moment you turn the key, no warm-up. The factory adaptive swivel is replaced by this fixed wide pattern.
The Snake-Eye DRL Signature
Two arrow-shaped "Snake-Eye" LED light guides per headlight, pointing inward toward the kidneys — the daytime signature of BMW's current generation, in place of the E70's halogen-bulb corona rings. Crisp white, inside a blacked-out housing that reads as one piece with a dark grille.
Sealed Construction
ABS housings with PMMA lenses, sealed against moisture at every joint — a fresh, clear lens in place of the hazed and yellowed polycarbonate most E70s are wearing by now. Every pair is bench-tested across all functions before it ships.
2-Year Warranty
Two years of coverage from delivery date on every set.
Installation
A headlight swap requiring front bumper removal — standard on the E70. No wiring modifications, no coding on any version. Allow 2–3 hours; a shop will quote around two hours.
- Remove the front bumper: the fasteners along the top edge under the hood, the screws inside the wheel arches, and the undertray clips. Disconnect the fog light and sensor connectors (and the washer-jet lines on xenon cars) before pulling the bumper forward.
- Unbolt the factory headlights and disconnect the main harness plug.
- Plug the new headlight into your factory harness — the connector matches the version you selected.
- Test before reassembly — low beam, high beam, Snake-Eye DRL, indicators, and a clean dash with no lighting warnings.
- Reinstall the bumper and align beam height using the integrated adjusters — our headlight aiming guide covers the procedure.
Complete the Transformation
Most owners refreshing an E70 front end do the rear in the same session:
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — that's exactly what the halogen version is. It plugs into your factory halogen harness and replaces the reflector units with twin bi-LED projectors and the Snake-Eye DRL. No bulbs, no ballasts, no relays, no coding.
There isn't one from the outside — the housings are identical. Start the car at night and turn the steering wheel: adaptive beams swing with it, standard xenon beams don't. Option code 524 on your vehicle order confirms it. Every US-market E70 and every X5 M was built with adaptive xenon, so those take the AFS version without checking. Still unsure? Send us your VIN.
The connector won't match the adaptive harness, so it's the one selection worth confirming before ordering. The AFS version is built for the adaptive harness and runs with no dashboard warning and no coding. If you ordered wrong, contact us before installing — a wrong-fit swap is covered by our 14-day free returns.
No. The AFS version satisfies the car's adaptive-light module on its own — no warning appears and nothing needs coding. The physical beam swivel is replaced by the projectors' fixed wide pattern.
Yes. The X5 M (E70, 2010–2013) uses the E70 headlight outline and left the factory with adaptive xenon — select the AFS version.
Yes. The 2010 facelift changed the bumper and the corona rings, not the headlight outline, so one housing fits both. BMW itself lists the same halogen headlight part number for pre-LCI and LCI cars. No bumper change either way.
No. The X6 uses a different headlight shape. This set is for the X5 E70 and X5 M only — it also doesn't fit the previous E53 or the later F15 X5.
On a car this age, the lenses have usually hazed and the ballasts and D1S burners are on borrowed time — each one is an expensive repair on its own. These replace all of it with instant-on bi-LED optics and a clear lens, and swap the halogen-bulb corona rings for the Snake-Eye DRL. One job instead of three.
No — this headlight runs a fixed white Snake-Eye DRL (~6,000K), the clean OEM-style look. There are no color modes to set and nothing to switch.
Nothing. Projectors, LED drivers and DRL electronics are all inside the new housing. Your factory headlights stay fully intact.
Select RHD at checkout. The beam pattern is built for the drive side, so a UK, Irish, Australian or Japanese car takes the RHD version; a LHD import registered in a RHD country takes LHD, matching the car's original build.
Yes, if you're comfortable removing the E70's front bumper. Standard hand tools, 2–3 hours, no lift required. Beam aiming afterwards takes a few minutes with the integrated adjusters.
